In the mountains of Galicia the “rapa das bestas” have been celebrated for years. The author has been documenting this tradition for more than a decade for the project called Raza, which is in the form of a book, an exhibition and the making of a short film.

Every year, during the summer months, men and women from some areas of rural Galicia go up to the mountains to clean up the horses that are living in the wild (disinfection, mane cutting, marking of foals and sale of animals). This encounter between man and animal is what will be documented in this visual essay.
