A Catalogue of a Young Country Ladies Library

Louis Porter compiles in "A Catalogue of a Young Country Lady's Library" a collection of photographic postcards featuring women engrossed in reading, juxtaposed with a list written by Anne Baker in 1712 of recommended texts to include in a women's library.

The majority of the postcards, collected by Louis Porter between 2019 and 2023, date back to the early 20th century when photographic postcards were a new invention. These images simultaneously portray a personal experience within a culturally and technically mediated framework.
