Candy debuted as the first fashion magazine devoted entirely to transvestism, transsexuality, cross-dressing and androgyny — billed on its cover as "the first transversal style magazine." The inaugural issue opens with a Candy Darling tribute shot by Bruce Weber and runs contributions from Terry Richardson, Tim Walker, Brett Lloyd, David Armstrong and Daniel Riera, alongside interviews with Boy George, Quentin Crisp and Fran Lebowitz. Produced single-handedly by editor, publisher and creative director Luis Venegas, this first issue remains the rarest and most collected number in the magazine's celebrated run.
