Dino Gavina (1922-2007), an entrepreneur and cultural agitator who always sought to push beyond established boundaries, was one of the chief architects of the Italian Style, a commitment to quality that defines Italian furniture design worldwide.

Under his influence, some of the most iconic furniture pieces of the past century were produced. Gavina viewed "production as the most effective means of communication in our time, a means that can be used as a vehicle for either stupidity or civilization." He worked as an aesthetic operator who succeeded in establishing a new relationship between culture and industry, through the mass production of furniture and objects of great aesthetic and ethical value. The book features designs by renowned creators such as Marcel Breuer, the Castiglioni brothers, Kazuhide Takahama, Vico Magistretti, Carlo Scarpa, Man Ray, and Sebastián Matta.
