Following his life-long exploration of the city he was born in, which has been the subject of many of his most acclaimed books such as Tokyo Suburbia (Korinsha Press, 1998), Tokyo and my Daughter (Nieves, 2006), Tokyo (Aperture, 2008), and Tokyo Olympia (Nieves, 2023), photographer Takashi Homma presents Tokio para ti, a small addition to his bulky body of work

The publication contains 86 plates edited in a simple, systematic lay-out that works as a gentle, uncompromising pattern of repetition, sinking the viewer in a sense of leisurely wander, a quiet stroll through ordinary, everyday streets. On one hand, it works as an open invitation to slow down and look, to enjoy simple details in the shapes, the light and shadows, the humble street signs and growing flowers we pass by, many times unnoticed. But it is also a thorough scrutiny of the urban landscape, the unsung architecture and the capricious dynamics of a city’s development. By the accumulative effect of his photographs through the pages, Takashi Homma comes to capture the essence of his city.

Tokio para ti is also the first international publication by Terranova, a bookshop and publisher from Barcelona, after ten years of books from local artists and photographers.

The book will launch on October 2nd, with a small exhibition and a live performance by Deer Revenge, Takashi Homma's music side-project, at our bookstore in Barcelona.
